Hello Everyone,
It has come to my attention that some of the families & residents do not understand the protocol around the visits at Portal Village. Currently, all Long-Term Care & Retirement Homes in the region are in an ‘ALERT’ phase. This means that the Covid-19 infection rate has risen and this is the attempt to keep visits and outings restricted to ensure we are doing all we can to keep our Residents and Staff (and our families) safe.
- At this time and in accordance with Directive #3 and following all protocol established by the many agencies overseeing our sector, all Visitors to the property must schedule an appointment. These appointments are spaced so that we do not have too many people in the building at any one time which allows for better social distancing. You can book these visits through the office at 905-834-0322 or email to: office@portalvillage.com
- All Visitors are required to wear a medical (surgical) mask. These can be purchased at several local outlets. If any issues, we can provide you with one until such time you can purchase a box.
***This mask must always be worn in the building including in the Resident’s rooms. This is for the protection of the Residents and the staff that are going into the rooms each day.
You should not be removing your mask until you leave the front door of the building. ***
- You should not be walking to and from the front door with your loved one and there is a restriction to one person at a time on the elevator. It is a matter of reducing risk of transmission.
Most families and residents have been gracious and understand the reasons behind these decisions. We do not make them lightly and we will continue to review on an ongoing basis. However, if some continue to neglect these rules, we will be left with no alternative but to put in place greater restrictions.
For those who do not believe that Covid-19 is dangerous and that we are making a bigger deal out of this than we need to, I urge you to do some fact checking. The Niagara area was hit very hard in this sector during the previous months. We personally know people who have been infected and people who have died. We simply cannot afford to take any chances. The quicker we can get through this, the better for everyone, mentally, emotionally, and physically.
If you would like to discuss this further, please contact me directly at 905-834-0322 Ext. 6002 next week, Tuesday through Friday.
Wishing all of you a great weekend.
Stay safe,
Tracey
